The mythology behind Oak Island began in 1795 when a young boy named Daniel McGinnis found a depression in the earth, that once uncovered, revealed a shaft that goes down hundreds of feet, booby trapped with layers of deterrents to keep treasure hunters at bay. In 1965, Readers Digest published an article explaining the ins and outs of what was dubbed the “money pit” in detail and the failed hunts over decades. But the real intrigue behind the island is that not only is it the sight of unexplained phenomenon, but that the treasure is said to be cursed. Adding to the magical and mystical element of the island is the appearance of the Northern Lights above the island every 11 years. Oak Island has not only intrigued treasure hunters, but is the subject of countless internet chat rooms and documentary series with a cult like following.

In our show, we find ourselves in Mahone Bay during the 90’s pre-internet / cellphone era, providing a small town innocence, to our heroine, Allie McGinnis and friends. In the 90’s, aside from the cool music and not-so-embarrassing clothes, the island and all treasure hunting was abandoned during due to the rash of unexplained accidents and deaths that occurred on the island while people were searching for the illusive booty.
