TRAVELING through a safety tunnel, leaving what has been your capsule for the past three months and you enter another capsule. This one is for five people, two plastic bags filled with cut out dots, scissors, and my iPad.
TRAVELING in a black virus-free ship
TRAVELING from confinement where time stopped
TRAVELING with my studio in a black cardboard and two plastic bags filled with a family of millions of dots and squares
TRAVELING with my iPad and my scissors hidden amongst the dots
TRAVELING with my family who is rescuing me from myself. I feel that time and things and ourselves, we are non-existent or pure existence.
TRAVELING with my two year old grandson, who in the future will say goodbye to his own son who will travel to another planet in search for a new home for humanity
TRAVELING with this child who has learned to be alone with his parents, without other children, creating imaginary worlds. He plays happily, he doesn’t give up, he falls down and says “try again”. He is prepared to be locked up in a ship for several generations until we find the chosen planet.
TRAVELING for two hours going through hundreds of “carriers” we are safe. The glass windows protect us. WE ARRIVE. The black ship advances on narrow streets with British style houses. We stop and walk in with my studio in my hand with everything I need. Inside everything was white except for some black details and two or three gray drawings. A small room with a piano and small equipment. Ximena pressed some buttons and music started playing: Scott Ordway’s “The Sky Itself was in this Room”
It was as if this capsule was awaiting us.
TRAVELING five days later we left at ten because the owners were returning. We deleted all trace of our stay. I chose a small balcony with a table where I placed my papers and worked for those five days. At night it rained and I lost everything. The only thing left was the texts for The Wind and Traveling.
TRAVELING on the road back I thought: this whole trip was to be together on this strange planet. “The boy said sadly goodbye, I’m sorry”. The ship was waiting on the corner to leave and he knew. He walked, without turning around and disappeared. A few minutes later a small ship appeared behind the buildings and it took off to space.
This ending is like Chaplin, walking towards the horizon becoming smaller and smaller. But this one is more optimistic.
