Why isolation matters. The PPT explains itself. This is a simple Power Point to explain to the rest of us what the media and government does so badly, in sound bites they seem to struggle to understand themselves, let alone explain clearly. This also hopes to teach kids how the most basic mathematical progressions work in the context of the real world... too soon? Progressions 101 primer. Comments welcome, mainly for improvement to clarity and any error of fact including suggested change. This is intended to spread understanding rather than fearful beliefs and ignorant hearsay.

I explain the simple mathematical progression that lies behind the spread of coronovirus at the most simple high school math level, without the formulas, using the easier to grasp principles. To do your own math you need a kids scientific calculator. It's very easy.

MAIN POINT: It shows how isolation is imperative to save a lot of lives that relying on herd immunity without isolation would cost.

IT suggests, as a logical conclusion of the maths, the likely government action that will be required to reap the benefits of isolation, by securing areas where the epidemic has run its course, but the self isolating elderly are un infected. To keep the still infected carriers OUT.

Cities of 1,000 will clear long before Cities of 1 Million. No one left uninfected to replicate to. Other complications of the simple view are introduced at the end, and some uncertainties in predictions. I hope this helps understanding both the viral spread - and the basic math!

PS I Could not make the narration feature in PPT work as advertised, so I gave up as I wanted to post while it mattered.. Microsoft user hostile bloatware again! It won't play back the narration until all the bulleted text has appeared, even though I recorded it bullet by bullet. EChhh! I might try Keynote and update later.

PPS But Bill Gates was right in 2015, about governments hopeless misdirection of taxes and subsidies to protect us from unreal threats that are not actually observable or unlikely , some probably natural, certainly not changeable by humans, while ignoring the real ones that are happening regularly that we can protect ourselves from better, and also count the bodies due to inaction whenthese events eventually happen. It's not unusual, Polio, AIDS, SARS, etc. . Yet there are not even enough face masks and PPE reserves to handle an epidemic in the World's richest countries. Why? No easy money for insiders in epidemic protection, and you have to prove expensive action using our money by law addresses a real problem and actually works. Politically risky. Easier to claim to expensively solve non problems that might occur decades ahead by spending lots of money on something you can't prove, but assert. An old trick of religions, Fascists, Communists, etc.
