Microsoft has announced that it will permanently close all Microsoft Store locations around the world.
Four locations, New York City, Redmond, London, and Sydney, will be reimagined as experience centers.
These experience centers will showcase Microsoft’s technology, but will not actually sell any products.
The decision was made as the company has seen its online sales grow, especially throughout the COVID-19 lockdown.
Microsoft previously opened a number of stores in high-profile locations, but many have remained closed due to the pandemic.
"Our product portfolio has evolved to largely digital offerings, and our talented team has proven success serving customers beyond any physical location," David Porter, Microsoft Corporate Vice President.
The Microsoft.com store, as well as the Xbox and Windows online stores, see 1.2 billion customers every month.
The tech giant has said that no one will lose their jobs because of the decision.
