The Arcturus is an antimatter-propelled starliner currently approaching the end of a six-year-long voyage back to the Solar System from Alpha Centauri. Wang Sudong, 55-year-old officer of the Navy of the United Planets, receives a message sent from the vessel by the ethnologist Naguib Lobato. The latter hopes to inform a handful of specialists about a discovery he has made on Henwar - a planet of Alpha Centauri A - concerning contacts of telepaths to individuals of a culture in the Jewel Box (κ Crucis = NGC 4755). Lobato doesn't yet completely overlook what's happening. All he can say is that a planet of the Jewel-Box people has evolved until a standard of technology like the one of the ancient Egypt of Earth, while some of the ones living there develop a tendency of reincarnating into the Solar System. This outlook scares the researcher inasmuch as he fears that habits of slaveholding might begin to gain ground, for example, within software-development facilities on Venus or at similar places.

The Arcturus begins its transmission with a signature tune - comprising the entirety of what's heard in the file. The background image is a cut from a photograph that has been provided by NASA / JPL / the Space Science Institute for public usage. It shows Alpha Centauri A and B above the horizon of Saturn. Wang isn't currently on Earth, given that mankind since a long time has extended its range of settlement into most set-scenes of the system of Sol.
