Fly Among the Stars
Fly Among The Stars is an interactive experience which enables one to step inside a 1947 Qantas travel poster. This multi-wall screen installation with sensory technology enables users to engage with graphic elements of the original poster, whilst revealing aspects of the poster not evident to the eye. By interacting with the prompted stars, users reveal various historical audio facts of the poster and gain an insight into what it was like to travel on the advertised flight over sixty years ago. By taking the compelling graphic language of the poster and transforming it into an interactive experience, participants enable themselves to be transported away from their current reality and engage with the storytelling nature of imagery. The delicate and dazzling visuals of the experience create a peaceful environment for users, encouraging them to enter a reflective and content state. By bringing the object to life in such a fascinating way, this experience sparks creative thinking amongst users as a result of the metaphoric storytelling and visual display. The immersive nature of the experience also ensures deep audience engagement. Through the combination of visual imagery, audio and user movement tracking, participants are not only able to leave the installation with better knowledge of the object, yet with a compelling joyous feeling, resulting in a lasting impact.

This project was developed under the guidance of studio leaders and demonstrators. As a response to a notional assessment brief, it is not directly connected to the Powerhouse Museum.
