THE POEM
This poem "tumi nirmolo koro mongolo-kore" is an immortal creation of Kabi Guru Rabindranath Tagore. This poem has been written before Independence. The poet urges the people to lead a simple and peaceful life and wipe out the greediness, which is the only way to salvation and to make a sin free society. Here the poet also prays to God to guide us on the path to rightness.
BACKGROUND
This poem has been written long before Independence. The poet has understood that greed and selfishness can never take one to the zenith. This is a prayer to God in the form of a song which Rabindranath Tagore (Kabiguru) ultimately wants every human being to recite. In the pre- Independence time the poet has felt that the rise of greediness has climbed to such an extent that the people has become self-centered and he wanted to abolish all such things in the society.
Structure of the poem.
This poem is basically a song written in the form of a balled. The poem has a distinctive characteristics in the music of Bengal, popular in India and Bangladesh. It is characterised by its distinctive rendition while singing which includes a significant amount of ornamentations like meend, murki, etc and is filled with expressions of romanticism. The music is mostly based on Hindustani classical music and folk music of Bengal. The poet has also used many figure of speeches in this poem like personification, simile, hyperbole to enhance the clarity of the poem.
