"It turns out that when I graduated from high school, I had already used up 93% of my in-person parent time. I’m now enjoying the last 5% of that time. We’re in the tail end...If you’re in your last 10% of time with someone you love, keep that fact in the front of your mind when you’re with them and treat that time as what it actually is: precious."

Jen and I went back home to Jordan, NY for the first time in a year-and-a-half to celebrate her 35th birthday with the fam. We live in California. Jen's youngest sister lives in Massachusetts. The rest of the family is there in NY.
We were able to hang out with Brittany (total bad-ass) and her son Gavin (who is an amazing kid; at 8 years old he loves cooking, motorbikes, POLAROID FILM photography, writing on his ACTUAL OLD-SCHOOL MECHANICAL typewriter, listening to VINYL RECORDS, playing Nintendo Switch, and beating me at basketball!), Caitlin (owns it at the historical Shaker Village running all their events!) and of course my mom, and Jen's parents Maribeth and Darrell!
Living so far away from home sucks; you miss big events and you're usually an afterthought to family/friends back home. And when you go home it's visiting a museum where you recognize all the exhibits but no longer have a strong connection to them.
In the same couple of days we were in NY my amazing cousin Emily graduated with her masters in social work (she wants to dedicate her life to help others and make this world a much better place) and another cousin Vanessa had an amazingly beautiful wedding. Both of which killed us to miss.
This is a short video we made to try and capture these moments we were lucky to be a part of as well as for anyone else that's far from their family.
