"Fiends 8 (Samba)" is the eighth of an undetermined number of solo classical pieces in the "Fiends" series, NOT to be confused with the "Two Fiends" series, that pays tribute to Fiends (not friends) and to the marvelous influences, much to many's dismay and chagrin, they have had on my person and my composing.

"Fiends 8 (Samba)" is based on fundamental Samba rhythms, especially those rhythms found in the agogo bell, timbales, congas, and piano parts. The rhythms are, of course, distorted and permutated throughout.

"Fiends 8" has a tonal center of E but temporarily modulates to many other tonal areas . The piece has a rather festive feel throughout despite some odd harmonies and it's penchant for augmented runs. Special care will need to be taken throughout in order to separate the melody from the accompaniment. The rhythmic counterpoint and cross-rhythms make that quite challenging. MM 11-20 is a complex development section that will require particular care.

The "Fiends" pieces share little thematic material yet make the same sinister and haunting aura about them. I sincerely hope that you enjoy this piece as well as the other "Fiends" pieces.
