Official music video for "Asshole" off of our upcoming EP "Demonstrating Visible Difference of Height" (full EP out 2/7/2020).
“Asshole” is about the dysfunctional beginnings of a relationship in Los Angeles summer heat. Socks strewn under the carpet, the awkwardness of getting to know someone in an intimate way, the feeling of being stuck in a room with air conditioning for fear of entering the melting outside world. The song starts with a soft vocal melody, quickly growing into a fully supported piece that lands in a soundscape of harmonium, background vocals, and layered guitars. The song ends in climax, reshaping the chorus into something entirely new. Working with sound artist Ryan Albert (of Pornog and The Metabolic Studio) as instrumentalist, engineer, and co-producer, Babehoven opens a new chapter of sonic development and songwriting.
Of the track, Babehoven explains:
“This song is a release of inhibitions; it is about reclaiming shame and embracing the human body as devotional. It is the wish to bear witness to every part of a new beloved, about the dysfunctionality of beginnings, of learning how to manage emotions with someone new.”
