The term coping, in regards to skateboarding is the material at the top skate ramps or pools made to protect the surface but also interact with a skateboard as the skateboarder performs a trick. Various unique sounds will emanate through physical interactions with coping. Some of the most common interactions are 50-50 grinds, rock & rolls, or smith grinds. Coping is usually made out of metal, concrete, or sometimes plastic.
The term coping, in regards to psychology is a conscious or unconscious way to deal with emotions. Due to various stress factors in life, coping can be positive or negative. Some common techniques of coping are deep breathing, physical activities, reading, and having time to oneself. Coping can help to reduce negative emotions or trauma and make our journey through life more fluid.
Skateboarding as physical activity is a great way to cope with anxiety and stress. When a skateboarder is performing a trick he/she is present in the moment which allows them to stay focus and disassociate themselves from negative thoughts/emotions that could be stressful from their daily activities.
