Joe Korkowski on Acting. I grew up in a real big family, there's eight kids. So in order to stand out, you have to do stuff. and so I was always trying to do something funny or maybe a joke or check this out, you know, and so it kind of started being a ham in the living room at home. I had some friends who started doing theater, and they asked if I was interested in doing that, and now, as I've done a number of different roles, in a wide variety of things, I've put myself in very uncomfortable situations. The name of the show that puts me out of my normal routine, I guess, is that it's Grumpy Old Man, and I like to approach it as being a young guy, and in a good mood, and have a good attitude. So, right there alone, being a grumpy old guy is not normal, and so ... I find myself, and I'm more gruff straight to the point, where before I might soft shoe.
- It's kind of liberating to just say whatever you think, as long as it's in the script. So I've had fun there, and I've had to learn just little things, cause I typically move really fast. Well, as an old, older guy, I've had to just discover mannerisms, move my hips forward, and all these little, little things, like I don't point like that, I gotta have a little different point. Just, just little things that I've had to pick up, and it also makes you very observant, like, is that what I'm going to be ten, fifteen years from now. Who knows? Not the worst thing in the world. I guess It's been fun too, I've done other theater where I've been able to do radio theater, and my wife has been involved, and so that's completely out of her comfort zone.

- I'm eating dinner out tonight.

- You are? Well then I will only need 3 chops for dinner. Well, they're only doing what we did.

- And so together we kind of like carried each other along, so to speak, and it was just kind of fun because there's all kinds of people who start in community theater, just on a whim. They may be 40, and just are trying it for the first time, and find out that this is something they can do, and that's what I've loved about being able to do this is that it doesn't matter what you come into this as, you can be just about anything on this stage. I would encourage people to audition because there are different types of roles. No matter what age you are, no matter what your interests are, there's probably a role, if not this season, it's next season, but there's always something, and besides, it's acting, you're, you're someone other than who you normally are. So you get to be anybody really. I mean, I get to be an old dude. So I mean, anything, right? So, try out, I really encourage you to give it a shot.
