The Covid-19 outbreak is doing its utmost to keep friends and family apart but one man has gone that extra mile to show his affection for Chiswick Nursing Centre resident, Tessa Landers.
Mike Harris, has been a friend and long-time visitor to Tessa, a resident in our Windsor Suite for the past two years. She is now too poorly to leave her bed and Mike has been unable to visit her because of the restrictions in place due to the virus.
Undaunted, and determined to let Tessa know he is still there for her, he called upon the services of Orion Access Hire, who run a fleet of vehicle mounted cherry pickers. They were only too pleased to help and, given the circumstances, donated their services free of charge.
The result was that, observing all the distancing rules to protect residents, staff and themselves, the cherry picker was used to raise Mike all the way to Tessa’s third floor window to deliver chocolates and flowers, where they were received, on her behalf, by nursing staff and carers. A video camera was also on hand to film the entire episode so that a wider audience could enjoy it afterwards.
Now that’s what we call friendship!
Centre Director, Steve Winter, who later viewed the footage, said: “It really was quite a remarkable gesture for Mr Harris and Orion to go that extra mile to bring some cheer into one of our resident’s lives at this difficult time. In fact, it went a lot further because many of our residents and staff have been able to see the video and watch the exercise unfold. It will be a talking point for weeks. We cannot thank enough all those involved and Mr Harris, in particular, for his heartfelt kindness.”
