Brief Synopsis: 'An Afternoon at the Girls Hostel' is a still image sequence created from pictures of the hostel I resided at for 3 years (2018-2020). 'An Afternoon' in the title is symbolic of the longest duration in the day of a girls’ hostel resident's life, due to the curfew system, mornings and nights are rush hours. The pictures were taken in February 2020, one month before the COVID lockdown commenced.

Being a final year undergraduate student, my hostel life came to an abrupt end due to the pandemic, making these the final memories I would have of the place I had just learned to call home. I experimented with the sound and visuals to materialize feelings that represent my mixed emotions towards a place close to many girls pan India. The poetry in the subtitles is self-written. The final news article image is about the 'Pinjra Tod Movement' - to break the gender-biased hostel rules and curfew timings imposed under the pretext of safety.
