In beautiful Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri, a proposed silica mine stands to threaten our freshwater aquifer and one of the last pristine stands of Ozark wilderness - all for the sake of producing streakless car spray.

The fact that NexGen Silica mine may jeopardize the trillion-gallon St. Francois Aquifer makes this issue one of national importance. Missourians in 7 counties depend on the massive sandstone aquifer, and possible contamination could spell major problems for citizens across the region.

Action Items:

1. Share this video on social media, in emails, and texts to friends and family

2. Contact your favorite media outlet and inform them of this issue; this is a national story due to the aquifer's vulnerability and size

3. Call Missouri Governor Mike Parson’s office, press “2” when asked, and state your stance on the issue: 573.751.3222 (in ex., “I value Missouri’s air quality, water quality, and the health of our Missouri State Parks. For this reason, I urge you to protect Hawn State Park and bar NexGen Silica from mining outside it. We shouldn’t have to risk air pollution, water contamination, or disturbance of one of our greatest state parks for something as inconsequential as streakless car spray”)

4. Call Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s office and state your share on the issue: 573.751.3321 (in ex., “I urge you to protect Hawn State Park and bar NexGen Silica from mining less than a mile away. According to recent news articles, NexGen Silica deceived the public in their permit application by entering into a lease agreement with an LLC that was not yet official. They also sued Ste. Genevieve officials to overturn an environmental law that would’ve prevented their operation in light of environmental protection. Beyond the ways they’ve already shown themselves to be a shady business, their mine could very well jeopardize the St. Francois Aquifer. I trust you will use your political and legal expertise to stop this operation from threatening our state further. Thank you”)

5. Call Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe’s office and state your share on the issue: 573.751.4727
