This piece was made with the intention of creating a suspenseful thriller/horror-esque story in mind. In which the original video, “Alone at Home” was created and presented as an instructional guide for children staying home by themselves in the 80s, I have chosen to create a narrative that is a subtle cross between the movie “Home Alone” and the YouTube series “Mandela Catalogue” that has been rapidly gaining popularity. This narrative is meant to be of a warning of sorts, one on the dangers of being alone, and that sometimes, no matter what or why, anyone can be in danger, no matter how safe they perceive their surroundings to be.

The story goes as follows: One day, a girl hears something at her front door, something that sounded a lot like a voice calling out a name. Upon closer inspection however, there appeared to be nothing, so she leaves it be. One night, however, a young boy goes missing during a storm. His friend, having recieved a phone call from the boy decides to visit him the next day. Upon arriving to the boy’s house, the friend discovers signs of intrusion.

I have chosen to leave the end of the video as open ended as possible (or as open ended as a story intended for the horror genre can be). Perhaps the boy is fine and is inside the house waiting for his friend. Perhaps his estranged father finally came home and he merely left the house in a hurry to do some grocery shopping, accidentally leaving the door unlocked, while the broken window is from the storm the night before. And perhaps, the boy was taken away by something in the middle of the night. The ending of this story is up to the viewer’s interpretation.
