Brown Act violation at Contra Costa County Mayors' Conference meeting in a movie theater in Concord on February 7, 2019 (audio only). Chair Concord Councilmember Laura Hoffmeister and the body (all 19 mayors in the county or the mayors' representatives) refuse to allow members of the public to speak about two appointments to regional bodies: Metropolitan Transportation Commission (four-year appointment) and Contra Costa Transportation Authority. The consent calendar included ALL of the "action items" at this meeting. They were all rushed through and adopted, with just 86 seconds elapsing from start to finish. The Mayors did not want the public to speak about this important business, especially MTC's unpopular bridge toll hikes (rejected by 56% of Contra Costa County voters and voters in 14 of the county's 19 cities), MTC's controversial tax-raising and real estate developer-driven "CASA" Compact, and CCTA's plan to raise the sales tax rate. So the Mayors simply kept the public from speaking, as documented by this audio recording. They also claimed that they needed to speed the meeting along to clear the theater for an 8:30 p.m. movie showing. See also "Regional Video" post on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=TlwrWWH0rgw
