Welcome to the 8th episode of Move of the Month! My concept is simple: on the last Sunday of each month, I share a dance movement I learnt during that month. The movement I show is always new to me. By this, I mean that it is a move I had never seen or done before, or something I never knew how to do.

This month, I started my MA Choreography and Professional Practices at the University of Chichester and took classes with other postgraduate dance students there. Yael Flexer taught us a nice new move that I considered showcasing as my Move of the Month, but I didn't get a chance to film it during our busy induction week.
Funnily enough, it's when I came back to my base, London, and took professional classes at The Place (as usual) that I picked up 3 more moves in a single class, taught by Luke Birch! Luke has performed for Yael Flexer, so in a way I didn't completely go off track. I practiced and filmed all three moves, shared one on Instagram and Facebook yesterday, and decided to focus on another one as my Move of the Month.
Upon reflection, I think I may have attempted this move some years ago, when taking Luke's class for the first few times, at Greenwich Dance Agency. I don't think I had fully owned it until now though. Going forward, I definitely want to keep working on variations on the theme of planks and hand balances. Watch this space for my next video releases on Sundays 27th October, 24th November and 29th December!
Music: 'Retrograde' by James Blake - The Theorist Piano Cover. Available on Youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=bt6jiF8Sthg
Enjoy!

Move of the Month is inspired by Nadia Vadori-Gauthiers' Une minute de danse par jour (daily minute-long dances) and by Giulia Coti Zelati and Miranda Sheehy's Tiny Dances (weekly 30 second dance films).
It is dedicated to all the artists and friends thanks to whom I never stop learning. If you think of any class I should take or move I should try, let me know! Your suggestions are welcome.
