Of man and nature
Two of the boldest minds in music and theatre come together this summer in a new semi-staged performance of Cunning Little Vixen, Janáček’s masterful opera produced by LSO and Barbican.
The performance campaign, designed by our London team, brings to life the opera’s storyline of a struggle between the worlds of man and nature. Created in collaboration with Argentinian motion graphic designer, Esteban Diacono, it culminated in beautiful and at the same time sinister images and a film, aimed to intrigue and inspire the audience. As with other projects created for LSO, the source of movement, and in this case struggle, comes from the motion of the conductor as he leads and shapes the sound of the orchestra.
Cunning Little Vixen, the partnership between LSO’s conductor, Sir Simon Rattle, and director, Peter Sellars, became a highlight of the London cultural calendar. Melodious and charming, this is a work rooted in Czech history and folk music; and a sentimental journey through the cycles of life. And for Sir Simon Rattle, it’s a deeply personal and emotional work – ‘it’s the piece that made me want to become an opera conductor… and still one of the pieces that reduces me to tears more easily than any other.’
