Dessert Train w/Documentation - creating a split screen documentation
Dessert Train similarly to Niagara serves as a video work for potential exhibition as well as element of live performance. Created from found footage of a journey across the US desert the artist creates an installation video for projection that slices through the same landscape often used in cinema as the space of thrillers and extra terrestrial interactions. Acosta brings an existential edge to the work with original sound created from “breath scores” performed by her ensemble. During the MAD performance 2 dancers also directed the lighting fixtures hidden about the space with their breath, so these layered recordings mix with live breath work and echoes through our environment as well. The two moments we most often experience audible breath in films being when there is “hiding or fucking” Acosta works with breath scores throughout the GDGD performance to create layered mediations and multiple approaches which collage for evening length or exhibition opportunities. (Dur: 11:26)
Using the video work as score Acosta and her ensemble dissected, research, and write, on land as monument, developing variations on the movement research along with the video work. Allowing for shifting as site and time require.
