Walter Benjamin’s “Arcades Project” was said to “suggest a new way of writing about a civilization using its rubbish as materials rather than its artworks: history from below rather than above.”
My team embraced the idea of the phantasmagoria we experience in the urban environment, and created an animation of the never-ending cycling of objects archetypal to New York City. We took into consideration our culture of consumption and production - lost time embedded in the space of things. It’s a game you can’t win, but it shapes the way we experience cities.
