“This piece is about endless journeys. The theme is immigration. I chose 1000 butterflies as title because I think immigration is such a personal and versatile experience. It has as many versions as the individuals who have experienced it. I see this versatility like the countless colours and shapes the butterflies present. I also really like the idea that butterflies fly freely without any boundary or limit. The piece is divided into three parts. One thousand butterflies narrates three different stories. The ongoing growth and movement is the core of all three but each of the parts must narrate a different story, a different character and experience. Each part creates an atmosphere so that the listener could create his or her story. I leave it mostly up to the audience imagination. I have never defined a mission for my music, but if there is any, I believe it will naturally find its way and do its job perfectly. My country of origin is Iran, and having lived and studied in the Netherlands for so long, I have obtained a deep knowledge of western music and techniques. After all these years I find it so difficult to describe my home. There is no home but there is a sensation of home that changes constantly in our mind.”
