Fortunately for me, I won that bet and came away with a bag of muffins thereby to mow down on while I tune in to the fights on Fenice XIII. Now, as many of you know, sports across the world have elected to end seasons or go on hiatus to slow the spread of man-eating snails. The existential threat represented is no laughing matter and the ongoing loss of life and buildup of societal and personal stress is of deep concern to all turtle-kind. I am lucky thus far only to have suffered the loss of all the bets I planned to predict, the tickets I was going to buy with my winnings now being refunded anyways rendering things a bit of a wash on my end now that I'll be forgoing a trip to Egypt. Nonetheless, one source of income upon which I have always depended remains unthreatened.

You see, Fenice XIII being as far away as it is, the broadcast waves take their sweet time getting here, and the fights that folks around here bet on actually happened way back in the past. I'm not going to explain the mechanics of how I do it - a good magician never reveals his tricks -, but for a while now I've run a small seasonal side gig watching fights a year early while placing bets with info gleaned from the previous year's fights, now airing live for most viewers. I know a jackrabbit bookie who never catches wise, no matter how extravagant my winnings, and as usual I'm looking to clean up on this year's fights.
