Today, we continue with Spiritual Warfare by taking a look at another weapon of warfare: prayer.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
This life is a battlefield for those who are serious about living for the glory of God. Why?
1 John 2:16
The motivations and goals of the world operate contrary to the motivations and goals of the Kingdom! To win this battle we must set things in order in our lives. This doesn’t just happen, it comes through intentional focus. On the night that Jesus was betrayed – in the looming darkness before the enemy attack – Jesus told His disciples that to be ready for what was coming, they must pray. Upon finding them sleeping instead of praying, Jesus said these words to them:
Could you not tarry with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. /// Matthew 26:40-41
That’s our truth: prayer helps us overcome temptation. Our problem: the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. If you want to overcome, you must become a person of prayer. The exciting thing is that Jesus didn’t just command us to become people of prayer but taught us how to do it! When a football team lines up to run a play, they first go through a sequence that could be described as “set, ready, go!”
SET
Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth as it is in heaven.
READY
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
GO
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Then, we leave reminding ourselves who has made all this possible:
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever!
Prayer is not just a place where we place our order but a place of revelation, transformation, and relationship. Through time with Him, we hear His voice, are changed into His image, and experience His presence. Jesus told us what is to be our priority. He used it by using the word “first”:
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. /// Matthew 6:33
Did you catch that? Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.
Kingdom priority is a key to answered prayer.
What is your priority?
