Watch the remotely operated vehicle Jason maneuver over the seafloor in April 2021 on an expedition to explore the geology, chemistry, and biology of hydrothermal vents at 9°50l'N on the East Pacific Rise. The research expedition was funded by the National Science Foundation led by Daniel Fornari and Lauren Mllineaux (WHOI) and included researchers from WHOI, Rutgers University of Bergen, Western Washington University, Lehigh University, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and Oregon Institute of Marine Biology. Images of Jason were captured by a seafloor lander equipped with deep-sea digital still and 4k video cameras developed by the WHOI MISO Facility (D. Fornari), Ocean Imaging Systems (E. Perrone), and Deep-Sea Power and Light.
