Regatta Park channels Penrith City Council’s bold vision for the future and ambition of Penrith as Western Sydney’s most liveable city, embodying its role as the region’s principal outdoor destination. McGregor Coxall was commissioned to realise design ambitions for Regatta Park’s accessibility, recreation, waterfront activation, amenity, and biodiversity, revitalising underutilised amenities while creating new adventure and water play spaces, a sports field, and multi-use lawn. Introducing 400 native and exotic trees, the park will play a pivotal role in relieving regional urban heat and climatic pressures while creating a biodiverse, engaging outdoor destination for the community. Our water management strategy optimises site stormwater runoff, utilising raingardens, and treatment systems alongside a riparian vegetation scheme to enhance the River’s ecological value. A hierarchical wayfinding strategy unites park nodes from the upper lawn, to the central Pavilion, revitalised Old Police Cottage find dining restaurant, and the timber riverfront decks below.
