More than 200 kids cast lines for La Marque’s Kid Fish

La Marque’s Kid Fish returned on Saturday with 250 kids from across the area competing for prizes.

The annual event is the brain child of La Marque’s City Manager Tink Jackson an avid angler who wanted to show off the fishing at La Marque’s Highland Bayou Park.

Youngsters caught Croaker, black drum, crabs and Mason Ho, 11, of Friendswood reeled in a 23-pound alligator gar (video of the catch and release provided to us by his dad).

Mason was too shy for an interview but he at least waved.

The event was also a good way to promote some of the amenities the city offers that many may not know about, Mayor Keith Bell said.

He noted that the 230-acre Highland Bayou Park has a pavilion, baseball fields, hiking trails, bird watching and even basketball and tennis courts in addition to the fishing on a lake that gets water from Highland Bayou.

Jackson said he is aiming for 500 entries next year.
