Meet Frank and Eric who lead The BASE Chicago in West Garfield Park, home to some of Chicago’s highest concentrations of gun violence exist. “We have to teach our children to hope…to look beyond their zip code.”
The young people they serve go through things “most people don’t even know about.” And so The BASE makes sure they are there for them, whenever needed. The BASE offers academics and athletics as the foundation for young people to work towards a better life, but the thing they stress the most is love. “We let them know we are doing this because - we love you.”
Covid-19 separated them for a while, but they are now finding new ways to be there for their BASE family. “You have to adjust… to put them in a position where they can win.”
This mini-film series transports viewers to communities on the frontlines of the crisis, providing a window into what is happening on the ground NOW and introducing the hidden heroes who through their actions, choose hope, no matter the odds.
