Description: A remotely produced dance work bringing together a global consortium of dance artists. Physical isolation takes on new meaning for dancers – we thrive on close physical contact and interactive creativity. How do we connect when forced to remain apart from each other? How does our attempt to connect reflect the broader yearning for connection during this extraordinary time?

The Ashanti people have a saying: “When we move together we feel as one great people”. Similarly, when we dance together we are one global community. With dancers scattered worldwide, we sought a creative vehicle to bring together our disparate ensemble members to collectively celebrate the unifying nature of dance.

Like a dream that feels real yet is intangible, so our rehearsals via zoom with dancers from a myriad of time zones began to engender an almost physical connection as we danced together while apart. By bringing together dance artists from China, India, Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, Europe and from throughout the mainland United States to create “Apart But Not Alone” we celebrate the idea that while we may be physically apart, dance unites us so that we are not alone.
