From “Yūgen”, one part of a three part final year thesis project by Graphic Design Senior student Hamda Al-Suwaidi.

“Yūgen” is the Japanese word for "an awareness of the universe that triggers emotional responses too deep and powerful for words.”

Hamda’s thesis project explores ego in the most basic elements of our existence, both tangible and intangible; ego in ourselves and ego in our connection with our surroundings which requires spiritual, social and physical awareness of actuality.

"Ulterior" is a VR experience visually comparing the human body underneath a microscope (the pattern seen on the virtual hands) with astronomical phenomena (the pattern seen in the atmosphere).

Hamda designed the entire project, beginning with the idea, and including the atmospheres, different realities, pattern scenes, the virtual hands, and the various navigational tools.
