In my tertiary education I have been fortunate enough to engage with critical arts industry thinking and active unlearning of the authoritative nature within aspects of arts practice. It is through the Resituate program that I hope to unite this theoretical learning and expansive practical experience offered by being a Biennale elegate. The broad themes that I wish to explore align with two of the highlighted areas of development in the Resituate program. My artistic practice explores alternative exhibition spaces beyond the gallery, primarily through text-based work and monographs. I am particularly interested in the photobook as an autonomous site of exhibition. It is through the audience engagement aspect of Resituate that peaks my interest, as these last two years have shown us that the gallery is anything but absolute in terms of artistic presentation. Alternative means of establishing connection and collaboration is central to my community of practice. Alongside this, I hope to engage with both like-minded and opposing individuals through the form of art criticism and writing. The word Resituate itself embodies a reflexive mode of engagement, and exposure to critical approaches in writing would better my understanding of international models of written engagement and develop new research underpinnings through dissecting writing practices. In short, I want to learn alongside my resituate peers in a lab environment built for asking big questions. The Biennale Delegates program not only encapsulates a much-needed area of critical inspection but offers the opportunity to collaboratively realise solutions and execute artistic experiments.
