The Province of Saint Thomas of Villanova’s Office of Justice and Peace under the direction of Fr. John Deegan, O.S.A., is committed to an ongoing program of education and encouragement to the people we Augustinians serve in our various ministries. To paraphrase Saint Augustine, true leaders walk alongside their people, sharing their journey and experiences as they accompany them. In addition to the teaching apostolate, Augustinians are engaged in several specialized ministries with particular focus on issues involving justice, peace and the marginalized in our society. As a ministry of the Province, the Office of Justice and Peace is supported by the Augustinian Fund. The Augustinian Defenders of the Rights of the Poor (A.D.R.O.P.), the praxis arm of the Office of Justice and Peace, was founded in 2004 by Fr. John Deegan, O.S.A. Fr. Deegan brought leaders, service providers, and volunteers together to assess the needs of the poor in South Philadelphia and began to match those needs with known resources.
