Dr. Wayne S. Cole, a WWII Army Air Forces
Pilot (1943-45) went on to become one of the
leading historians of isolationism in the Roosevelt
era.

Cole’s book “Roosevelt and the Isolationists,
1932-1945,” is regarded as a definitive study
of the period.

Cole’s book details how Roosevelt not only
defeated the isolationists but fixed on them
a distorted and grossly unfair image of being
narrow-minded, treasonous, anti-Semitic,
self-serving, partisan, anti-democratic,
pro-Nazi, fifth-columnist."

Roosevelt mastered the time-honored technique of
equating dissenters with the enemy perfected in WWI.

The NY Times review of Cole’s "Charles A. Lindbergh and the Battle Against American Intervention in WW II,” applauds Cole for breaking down the stereotypes created by Lindbergh's “interventionist assailants from the White House on down.”

Cole explains the broader questions of the efficacy
of intervention and Lindbergh’s “warnings against
excessive Presidential power, secrecy, and deception in foreign affairs” that have striking parallels in 21st Century America.
