Everything begins with water.

Water is the foundation for all other levels of development. That means, for the millions of thirsty people throughout the developing world, safe water can transform health, sanitation, hygiene, education, justice issues, and livelihoods. (Source: Living Water International)

During the Season of Lent, Word of Peace is leading an initiative to provide clean water to people who need it. Our goal is to raise $10,000, which is enough to construct four water wells in Africa through ELCA World Hunger. Together, we can make this happen!

Drink Water to Give Water

Purchase a Word of Peace water bottle for just $10 beginning Sunday, February 23. 70% of the proceeds will be given to the Drink Water to Give Water initiative. Use the water bottle to exchange your regular beverages for water, and consider how much money you save. Notice how good it feels to nourish your body with the water it needs every day, and to know that you are providing life-giving water to others.

Take the Challenge

For the 40 days of Lent, give up every beverage but tap water and track what you save on coffee, soda or other drinks and donate it towards safe, clean water for people who are desperately in need. Use the tally card that comes in your new Word of Peace water bottle, or track it on your own. If 40 days is too long to go without your favorite drinks, try it for a couple of weeks or consider matching the amount that you spend on beverages during Lent and give that amount to the Drink Water to Give Water initiative. By joining this challenge, you can make a measurable difference in the lives of God’s people around the world.
