Waiting/Watching (2012) is part of a multi-faceted project by Kim Abeles, "the interconnectedness of things", commissioned by EcoArts Connections, Boulder, CO. The mural with its detailed images of lichen photographed in the region is animated by dozens of videos of local children’s eyes and traffic in their Boulder neighborhood.
Abeles worked in collaboration with atmospheric scientists, emissions specialists, lichenologists, transportation professionals, and middle school students. Collaborating organizations included Envirotest – Air Care Colorado, Manhattan Middle School, and Spark: UCAR: Science Education at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). (2012)
