Experimental video. This autobiographical short film is based on my own relationship to the concept of home.
For some immigrants, moving out of their country and leaving family and friends behind mean that letting go of the past is nearly impossible. For first-generation students, moving to pursue a higher education means living in fear of losing touch with home. For me, voice messages ease my way of dealing with these individual battles and transport my mind to exist in multiple spaces at the same time.
Through video, I want to recreate how voice notes allow people to stay connected with others and recall important memories as they also navigate their own everyday lives. Inspired by News from Home by Chantal Akerman, I explore juxtapositions of sound and visuals to represent complicated relationships to the concept of home.
