As part of QueeRevolutions Project 2020, workshop weekend, "Twisting Traumas through Ballroom" was a workshop approaching the ballroom culture as a transformative space that holds a therapeutic element of exposing ones lived experience that is full of shame, bullying and relatively traumas that manifest as patterns of a personality. The ballroom culture has been a space of rediscovering internal and external monsters that haunt the life of Ahmad Baba, allowing that space to be a battle against himself but more like a challenge to overcome through exposure of self in a supportive communal space.
This workshop is sharing and exchanging of this personal experience, and most importantly an education on history of ballroom culture, raising the question of how spaces and communities can be a driving force for growth instead of a destructive one.
