The Technology in Practice Model (TIP) is a qualitative approach, from Orlikowski’s research (2000). TIP is infused throughout the textbook- see especially the QR-coded video by Tyler Servis on page 37 and the examples interspersed on pages 27- 44.
The important point is that “it is only when the technology is used in recurrent social practices that it can be seen to structure users’ actions” (Orlikowski, 2000, p. 408), a structuration process of co-evolution of the material and the social context of technology use.
