Back around Christmas of 2017, I went with WWMT's Anna Giles to Three Rivers, Michigan, where the friends and family of a woman struggling with kidney failure were at the end of their rope - they were making signs reading 'NEED A KIDNEY' with the intent of standing in the cold in Kalamazoo to try and find a donor for Patty Hoyt. Their gambit was a desperate one - but because of our coverage that night, a retired Kalamazoo woman made the choice to reach out and try to help a total stranger through donation. A year later, we revisited the two women and their companions, all now friends with unbreakable bonds - the bonds that save lives.
