My idea for this project, The Vicissitude of Erriapus, is to show an exploration of life through the eyes of a man who is essentially a newborn being born from an alien like unconventional womb. With the help of his guild in this new world, he understands what it means to experience life, death, and create new life. I want the film to be abstract and take on a science fiction like feel. Mostly cold colors like blues, greens, and subtle purple, with the occasional black and white. All the events taking place will not be taking place on earth, it will feel and seem similar but not exactly. The film will kind of like a dream to you, but its real for the living things within it. The reason why I want to go the dreamy science fiction route is because, I have always explored concepts of abstract reality in my past work, but they always seem to be on earth. I wanted to challenge myself and make a reality completely away from earth. I am hoping for this film to be at least two to three minutes, nothing too long or too short. The film is going to start out with life being create and end with life being created again. It will be kind of a loop or circle of life. The man’s guide gave him life and now the man will give life to someone else in return. I plan on having the sound for the film be ambient and somber. I want to inflict a sense of loneliness in the viewer, maybe a little dread. The man isn’t growing in terms of age, but he is getting wiser. And with this new wisdom that the guide has given him, he will take on the task of guide for the next newborn. Making it so he doesn’t need to guide assistance any longer. It’s almost like how a child is raised by a parent but there comes a point where the child grows into adulthood and doesn’t need the parent as much as they used to. In this case, instead of a parent and child it’s more like a teacher and student and teacher is passing the torch onto the student. The man can represent a new generation and when it is time, and in turn he passes on his knowledge to his predecessor. My inspirations for the film come from the concept art of Treasure Planet, background art from the BloodBorne, and a short film title Puparia. BloodBorne isn’t really space relate but some the art for it makes me think of space. Puparia is the main inspiration for this film. It made me think about life and the things within it. The short film also ended with a boy in space like dream scape and made me start brainstorming about this film.
