God’s redemption work leads us to being “One: Unity in Christ.” The previous statement is just truth. Any work that does not lead to oneness with God and oneness in Christ together is not the work of God, but most likely working against God. This oneness and unity is not on our terms, but God’s terms. We are not talking about everyone just getting along. We are talking about God’s salvation work overcoming sin and restoring all things back in God as they were initially intended to be. So how does such a reality come to fruition? To put simply, it’s not easy, but God gives us a path. Remember it’s not on our terms so that path is not ours to choose. We call this path, the path of discipleship. We often think the path of discipleship is mostly a path of learning and knowledge, but that is not so. It’s primarily a path of formation and acquiring new virtues, of becoming more like Christ.
