THE LONGEST LIVING LIGHT BULB IN THE WORLD // ideoli group // invigorate your space // The world's longest-lasting light bulb is in the United States. The Centennial Light is located at 4550 East Avenue, Livermore, California. It is maintained by the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. The fire department claims that the bulb is at least 119 years old (installed 1901). The light bulb was invented by Adolphe Chaillet, a French engineer. He filed a patent for this technology in 1900. The Centennial Light was originally a 60-watt bulb, but now emitting light as a 4-watt nightlight. In 2001, the bulb's 100th birthday was celebrated with a community barbecue. The bulb has outlasted a UPS battery backup and four web cameras installed to monitor it 24 hours a day.
