First shot for National Geographic as part of Emerging Explorer Barrington Irving's Flying Classroom project in 2014, our Bali Expedition became the focal point of my MFA thesis at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Working with Celia Gregory, UCSC, and the Marine Foundation, this is a 2D glimpse of a [sub]versive journalism piece illustrating the Biorock accretion method of regenerating marine ecosystems such as northern Bali's once-decimated coral reefs.
Parallel to Irving's Flying Classroom project, the end goal is to use documentary to excite and encourage students globally through the use of low-cost, accessible VR technology, engaging them with STEM education.
