The biannual Technical Career Fair took place earlier this month, with nearly 100 companies on hand looking to hire Chico State students.
Ryan Bonea, GTS Supervisor of Engineering Services, "We know that all of the engineering students coming out of Chico State are phenomenal, we have many on our staff, and are certainly enthusiastic to come here to Chico State."
Hundreds of students worked the floor of the BMU, and there was something for everyone, from companies close to home like NorthStar.
Jay Lower, NorthStar Civil Department Manager, "NorthStar is a multi-disciplinary firm in the local Chico area. We have architectural, civil design, surveying, planning, environmental, we like to be a broad range of a lot of different things that we can do within our area."
To international corporations like Chevron.
Jennifer Marasco, Chevron Team Lead in Downstream IT Operations Group, "As a global company we're based all over the world. From an IT standpoint, our main offices are in San Ramon, California and Houston, Texas."
To government jobs at places like NavAir.
Cole Christensen, NavAir Mechatronic Engineer for Threat Target Systems Department, "We are the navy civilian branch, so we work with the military, we work with the soldiers. We do a lot of the research and development and test evaluations for the weapon systems. And that goes from missiles, to airplanes, to literally everything."
Some companies even take the opportunity to arrive early, and hold special employer information sessions, like this one, held by the Barry Wehmiller Design Group, the night before the career fair.
Eric Jaime, Barry Wehmiller Design Group Controls Engineer, "We love interacting with the students. We just love that Chico has that kind of interpersonal atmosphere. The students are very open, and can openly talk with different audiences, so it's just a good time."
And that good time, appears to be had by all, which is one of the many reasons why so many companies keep coming back, to recruit our students.
Christensen, "Working for the military specifically, having that collaborative idea, being able to bring teams together and say, 'Hey, we do this, and you do this. If we work together we can get this done faster, or more efficiently.' And it goes hand in hand with the environment and the skillset that you get from being a Chico State student."
Lowe, "We've got about 42 employees at NorthStar, and we've got 20 fo them that are Chico State graduates, so we really like them. We like the fact that they went through the Chico program. The Chico program exposes them to a lot of real world type items that we like them to see."
Matthew Harris, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Software Developer/Engineer, "My partner and I are both Chico State alum. It's ABET certified Computer Science department, it's one of the best in the states, and it's our home, so we come here to find students."
As do so many, every time this event is held.
