Thursday was quite the day for students in the College of ECC looking for jobs and internships, as companies from all over the west coast and throughout the US, set up shop in the BMU for the Technical Career Fair.
Chelby Polines, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering Double Major "You get to see in real life what the company is about, and what values they have, rather than just looking them up on the internet."
Alejandro Jimenez, Mechanical Engineering Major, "It's a great opportunity. It's very crucial and very important for you to get your name out there, to get your experience as an intern, or a possible hire."
And those opportunities were available for students of all backgrounds.
Miguel Leon, Nav Air Range Systems Engineer, "Looking for mechatronics, computer scientists, electrical engineers, and computer engineers."
Lauren Pitcher, Kiewit Engineer, "We like engineering, because they bring more of a scientific, technical background, but we also love construction majors, concrete majors as well, even material science."
In all 90 companies were on hand, ranging through many different fields.
Bob Hudelson, AJA Video Systems Engineering Manager, "AJA is an electronics manufacturer, builds embedded systems for digital video broadcast systems, as well as cinema."
Leon, "Nav Air, specifically Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division. We need to do testing evaluations on weapon systems, we need to be testing radars on aircraft."
Pitcher, "We do a lot of horizontal work, so waste water treatment plants, transportation, roads, bridges, dams."
And when it comes to hiring, most of those companies seemed to care a lot more about who you are, than what you know.
Stephen Thomas, USDA Forest Service Recruiter, "We're looking for students with good leadership skills, teamwork, and good communication skills."
Kyle Andrade, Helix Electric, "It's also very much about whether or not they have the go-getter attitude, and we feel like they're really going to pursue to the next level."
Pitcher, "We're here looking for people who wanna work, who are driven, who wanna get dirty, get some mud on their boots, get in the field, know the craft."
And ultimately those are the kind of students Chico State produces, which is why so many of these companies keep coming back.
Hudelson, "I've been involved in recruiting for our industry for about fifteen years, and over those years Chico State has been the most productive school that I recruit at."
Scott McDonald, Aruba Networks, "The students are very outgoing, they're friendly, they like to work together, and so they have a lot of the skills inherent in them that we're looking for when we hire."
Thomas, "Chico State produces a lot of great students that are good hands on students. They can get out into the workforce and start working. We have several alumni from Chico State working for us."
And thanks to this career fair, maybe a couple more will be joining them."
