Welcome aboard Sydney’s Super Tunnel — an extraordinary behind-the-scenes factual documentary series capturing the delivery of Sydney Metro, one of the world’s biggest transport infrastructure projects.

The challenge has been set — build a new, driverless metro railway through the heart of Sydney to bust road congestion.

The scale is daunting and a workforce from around the world is called to arms, led by engineer and transport chief Rodd Staples and inspired by the work — a century earlier — of another legendary engineer, John Bradfield, the designer of the world-famous Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Filmed over five years, come behind the construction fences as we capture the human spirit of the massive engineering challenge facing more than 40,000 workers.

What do they do when bubbles from a giant tunnelling machine mysteriously come floating to the harbour’s surface? How do they build new platforms when surrounded by customers at Australia’s busiest railway station, which can’t be shut down? And will they open on time, finally turning the city’s 100-year-old transport vision into reality?

Known around the world as Mega Metro, this Australian-produced documentary series will be broadcast on SBS-TV in August and September 2020.
