PURE has partnered with the Deep South Center For Environmental Justice (website link dscej.org/) to help provide opportunities for HBCU students to get hands on experience with environmental justice Initiatives. Antionette Fowlkes is a native of Birmingham, AL, Antionette is an ambitious servant leader, problem solver and organizer. She obtained her bachelors degree in environmental science and environmental health from Alabama A&M University. PURE sponsored her involvement with DSCEJ in 2015 and she was able to be immersed in the training program that took her from New Orleans to Washington D.C. to Paris, France for the United Nations Global Climate Change Conference (COP 21) where she did a presentation before the U.N. along with other HBCU students. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree at Iowa State University in Community and Regional Planning. After graduating in in December she plans to attend law school to receive her JD to assist communities in the fight against environmental inequality, social justice and environmental justice. She is a driven, energetic and compassionate person who desires to see all people living in healthy and vibrant communities.
