For my referral project I have created a short-documentary about a night at The Volks Nightclub in Brighton I attended May last year that was a warm-up party for a music festival in Chepstow, Wales that plays the type of dance music that I like. I also wanted it to be a short-film about the nightclub and rave culture in Brighton that it attracts in general. I wanted to capture my experiences being there and to tell people who don’t know much about it what it’s like being a part of that scene. This short-film also showcases and informs the viewer about two DJs/Producers who I am a fan of, and the genres of music they play, whilst talking about my love for this particular venue and how it makes me feel. I like how this one has turned out, but I do think I could’ve edited it together more smoothly. But other than that, this short-film really captures my passion for that particular music scene and love of the people who make it what it is. I feel like that this short-documentary really captures who I am and my personality better than some of my previous film work. It was very easy for me to talk about my experiences and interests through this medium, my tutors adivsed me to do more things like this as they say I speak with authority. If this documentary has a purpose, it is to inform people who are interested in learning more about the rave scene in Brighton and to give a glimpse to anyone who’s curious to what it’s like.
