ShrinCage is a 4D printing system for designing and fabricating self-shrinking accessories to fit and fasten existing objects. Combining shrinking thermoplastic actuators with porous infill structure, ShrinCage accommodates inevitable measurement and fabrication error. Thus this lowers the barrier for novices to engage in personal fabrication, such as aesthetic modification, assistive technology, repair or upcycling of everyday objects.
This project is a collaboration between students of Zhejiang University (Yue Yang, Yu Chen, Jiaji Li) and Carnegie Mellon University (Danli Luo, Haolin Liu), advised by Ye Tao, Guanyun Wang, Lingyun Sun, Lining Yao.
