Sheru, a young boy residing in the small village in Sindh, Pakistan finds his comfort with the little pieces of torn newspaper he finds on the floor as he aspires to get education. Often seen with second hand books in his hand, whether walking to work – picking up garbage – or wandering around town, his eyes search for answers in his barren village and the lines of his tattered book. Growing up in an abusive home, Sheru sees his father for who he is: a man who deems his wife useful only for sexual gratification and food on his plate. Sheru himself is only valuable to his father because of the mere rupees he makes to buy his father’s cigarettes.

A teacher, brought in by an NGO to teach the village’s children every fifteen days catches Sheru peeking through a tree while she teaches the rest of the village kids. Sheru cannot attend the class like the other children because if caught by his father, he would not just beat sheru, but also his mother. She asks Sheru to come forward and while pulling his leg asks him a few questions about various subjects that she has taught in class before. To her surprise he knows the answers to all of them so she suggests if he ever comes to Karachi (the biggest city in Pakistan) he should meet her; unknowingly, these words inspire Sheru to escape his village and start a journey to the city of Karachi looking for her. In the city, Sheru is met with challenges, and is faced with the harsh realities living in slums, witnessing sexual abuse, and having no money. Sheru’s life unfolds, telling the story of how a village nor a city can be found without its own circumstances and difficulties. However with determination, passion, and a few helping hands, anyone irrespective of background can touch all heights.
